"A Nation Of Cowards"
In just the past few months we, the American people, have been clearly shown just how little our new 'leaders' think of us. From the new President's campaign blurb of bible clutching, gun toting, suspicious hicks to his First Lady admitting that it was only just recently that for the first time she was "proud" of her country. In case you haven't figured it out yet, 'We' are our country. If she isn't proud of our country then she is not proud of her fellow citizens as well.
Then we have John 'They are all guilty!' Murtha, who when he isn't busy falsely and prematurely condemning our Marines, stays in the limelight by displaying his utter disdain for his own hometown people by calling his constituents rednecks and racists.
Upon entering the White House the new President selects not one, or even two, but four different tax evaders for his Cabinet, like 'We The People' wouldn't notice, or care. Likewise New Mexico's Governor Richardson had to 'step aside' and refuse the nomination as Obama's commerce secretary because he is under a grand jury indictment for a 'pay to play' scheme in his home state. Lest we forget, and with all of the news coverage how could we, there is the other 'pay to play' scandal involving the now impeached Illinois' Governor Blagojevich. To that add in Blago's now under fire selection of Obama's Senate seat successor Roland Burris for perjury and it clearly shows that 'our leaders' think that they can do or say anything they choose and get away with it.
Congress believes that the American people are so stupid that we won't notice the hypocrisy when Congress openly condemns corporate execs for giving themselves raises in this time of economic strife right after they themselves have voted in their own substantial pay raises! Nancy Pelosi tells us, "We are all in this together," as she oversees Congress as it slams a trillion dollars plus worth of new debt onto our backs, and that of our children's children, with their stealfromus plan, then she flies off to Italy with a few other Congressional elites on the taxpayers dime.
Meanwhile, astonishingly, Senator Charles Schumer arrogantly explains that the American people, you and I, don't give a damn about Congressional 'Pork' spending! Say what? Apparently Schumer has forgotten whose money it is that he and his thriftless cohorts are so freely spending. Any normal thinking human being has to ask themselves if these patrons of the arts and ACORN, fast rail railroaders, and saviors of the endangered salt marsh harvest mice are really that stupid or are they just that far out of touch with normal everyday life here in America? The answer may be 'yes' to both. But then just how thick are we to continue to take these insults and lies yet then still vote these clowns into office?
There are many other instances of congressional and executive wrongdoing and public insults. Such as Chairman of the Senate Banking Committee Chris Dodd's sweetheart deal on two loans from Countrywide, a company he is supposed to regulate, for us. Then there is Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel living rent free for over a year and not reporting it. Or how about that just about anything that VP Joe Biden states is such an assault on our collective intelligence that we often can do nothing more than just shake our heads in disbelief? As it is just too tedious I won't even begin to get into the criminal and unethical dealings of other Congressional members like Charles Rangel and Barney Franks. But I believe the kicker of the year, and it is still early, is what new Attorney General Eric Holder stated about race relations in our country when he said:
"Though this nation has proudly thought of itself as an ethnic melting pot, in things racial we have always been and continue to be, in too many ways, essentially a nation of cowards."
How's that for slapping every American mother's son and daughter, of all races, in the old kisser? Well shoot, at least he didn't mince words, but then he is only an appointed official not an elected one. One must also see the irony of this statement coming from the party who has for the past eight years so vigorously criticized the Bush Administration for its lack of diplomacy. As it is the tack that Obama and Holder have chosen here shows all the diplomatic delicacy of blunt force trauma. Hey guys, why not go all out and just add that besides being a cowardly mob of misfits, we are all ugly as sin and smell bad to boot!
There's no sense in pulling your punches now, you're on a roll!
After Holder's insult and with just one month at the helm I have to wonder if next month Obama's Administrator of the Health Resources and Services Administration, Dr. Mary Wakefield, won't start off a press conference with, "Americans, your mommas are so fat..."
I won't tell you here what my first two word reaction was to this statement when I read this nation of cowards slur. I am sure most of you can imagine. Nor will I justly argue in the defense of the American people because the accusation of America being a nation of cowards is just too absurd.
But the second thing I thought of was just how does a public official get away with insulting Americans in such a blatant manner? Where is the public outrage over such a slanderous and underhanded statement? After the initial reporting, the news media hardly gave this outrage any notice. It is as if because it was a question about race made by a minority, it must go unanswered. Or that it must be true!
Next I wondered if this administration was possibly going to try to regulate or influence our society's advancement in race relations. This worries me, as try as they might a government cannot regulate what is in the hearts and minds of the people but rather it is for each person to come to terms with what is right on their own. Hopefully coming to these terms with the guidance of Christ and His Father to reach the conclusion that we are all Brothers.
But what would really anger me with this administration's attempts to chide, insult and humiliate us into what at best would only be a forced and convoluted relationship in our society is the hypocrisy of a President who sat for twenty years in a racially biased church listening to the hateful rants of his preacher and close friend. After that long term vulgar relationship, to now have members of his administration tell the rest of us when and how we should interact by insulting us because he does not think we are interacting enough is laughable! Knowing the President's past relationships with Wright, his church and their buddy Louis Farrakhan, it is most galling to know that what Holder stated was first run by and then approved by his boss, President Obama! Isn't it appalling to anyone else to know that through his personally selected Attorney General the new President has just stated that which he himself believes but cannot openly state? That we are a nation of cowards!
Holder goes on to say that although the relationship between races has improved at the work place it has not carried out into our private lives. I would have to say that we Americans are doing a much better job at getting along than those who now stand in judgment of us. Especially in light of the straight party line divisions and animosities that were so obvious in the passing of this last stealfromus bill.
America and Her brave people have come far in our interracial relationships. But there is still a much longer journey ahead. The new President, his Attorney General and the rest of his Administration would be wise to look long and deep within their own hearts before they question the courage of the American people. Few of us would have sat silent with our wives and children in attendance for even one of Reverend Wright's hate filled racist rants. Even fewer would have returned for an encore. And barely any of us would have sat silent for twenty years. Black or White.
God Bless America and Her Courageous People!
Semper Fi,
Mike

This is an excellent commentary on the Congressional and Executive Leaders of our Country~ not to mention those of us that are NOT up in arms about the behavior and language we are seeing and hearing. You have an outstanding way of succinctly analyzing what's going on in Washington and commenting on it in a way that speaks for those of us in the middle class. More often, it seems we are becoming lost in the shuffle~ thanks for your insight and your courage to write about it.

Whether or not you like Obama and Rahm Emanuel or think they're jag-offs, I wanted to point out the thing about Emanuel's property taxes is an internet hoax started by an Illinois blogger who made a mistake while reading the tax docs. (That blogger then whined and whined, blaming everyone but herself for the fact that she made a mistake ... but that's another story.)
He does pay his taxes, in case you want to correct your column above.

I stand corrected, as it has been pointed out the Emanuel does pay his property taxes. Below is a link as further proof. I thank the reader for pointing out this error.

My original post had read:
Then there is Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel living rent free for over a year and not reporting it, while he has never paid any property taxes on his house in Illinois because he has claimed it as a headquarters for a charity, his own.
It has been corrected in the above article to omit this false statement.
My apologies to the readers of this article for this mistake.

Mike

As one who has been waiting for a reply from my Congressman since the 5th of January, I have no faith in any of them. Enough of this, I'm off to enjoy a beautiful day, sunshine, blue skies, birds singing, and relatively fresh air. ta ta.

What a sad state of affairs we have allowed this country to walk itself into. There is an old saying that goesw like this ..."There are none so blind as those who will not see; none so deaf as those who will not hear; none so dumb as those who will not speak."
While serving in the military there were three things I always said I could not and would not tolerate ...1. Ignorance 2. Incompetence 3. Stupidity.
In 2010 we will have the opportunity to vote every "demoncrat" out of office that wants to destroy this country. It is time that 'WE THE PEOPLE' REASSERT OURSELVES AND LET THESE BONEHEADS KNOW THAT THEY SERVE US!!
