Escaping from the spectacle and embarrassment of this Presidential primary Three Ring Circus the American voters exited the Big Top and once again we found ourselves on The Political Circus Midway. Here the pollsters took over asking inane questions paled only by the insane responses of my fellow citizens. For example:
Even after hearing and seeing the truth repudiating the tall tales of a First Lady, and her child, supposedly being exposed to flying bullets and incoming, or after choking down the fanciful excuses that a man with a Muslim name and background really is a Christian, and unlike his mentor and pastor, he doesn't hate white people, because for twenty years he swears that he never heard a word his Reverend had been saying in the church he was attending. Yet despite these and many other blatant falsehoods by these two candidates over fifty percent of the people polled said that they believed that Clinton and Obama were honest!
Suddenly I felt faint and dizzy, but I was unsure if this spell was caused by the absurdity of the voter's responses or the Arizona summer heat? At first I was dismayed then depressed that my fellow countrymen must live within such distrustful and false relationships that they would actually believe that these two politicians are honest. Just how terrible must the lives of these believers be? But then I realized that I should not be upset, rather I should rejoice in at last finding this before all too mythical portion of our society. For at last we now know that there really are people out there who buy that swampland in Florida, bridges in Brooklyn, deeds to lost abandoned gold mines and yes, that fine, one owner used car, owned by that little old lady who had only driven it to church on Sundays. These believers must also be those among us who answer those heart-wrenching e-mails from that desperate widow in Nairobi. That poor woman who only wants our help in getting her late husband's fortune released from the trust funds being held hostage in that South African bank and who is willing to pay us ten millions pounds for our trouble. Well, of course, along with all of our personal and banking information. God bless these believers, how child like they must be. As a bitter, old cynic myself, I almost envy them for their naiveties and innocence.
However with the primaries now over and the winners from each party nominated, those among us who do not share this simplistic childlike innocence are once again reminded how artificial these politicians really are. To accurately judge just how disingenuous these politicians can be simply wait until the primaries have concluded. For after long months when each and every one of them has told us how much they love America, and how according to them all, America is always first. When all during their campaigns they have warned us over and over again not to vote for that other candidate. After they have pleaded with us to use our common sense and intellect so as not to entrust this other guy, or gal with this all important job as the Leader of the Free World. After insisting that among all of these candidates "I" am the only one who is qualified to fill this position while persisting that their opponents are completely unqualified. They have told us in no uncertain terms that the other guy, or gal cannot be trusted and strongly imply that we will all be doomed if that other candidate is elected instead of themselves. In doing so they spend millions upon millions of good old US dollars in driving these points home so that we can fully understand that if we vote for that other candidate then we are making a huge mistake by putting America in jeopardy. During these campaigns they insult, cajole, humiliate and backstab their opponents. In recent years there has been so much mud slinging that we voters find ourselves forgetting that we are watching our democratic political process in action and start thinking that we are actually watching the "Food Fight!" scene from 'Animal House."
But then what happens when the voters have spoken and the losers are left out of the running? To a man, or woman, they then endorse the very person that they have spent all of this time and money on warning us not to vote for! Instead of pleading with us NOT to vote for the other guy, they now beg us TO vote for the other guy! They justify this by saying it is for the good of their Party, and for America. Now is that being honest? Hardly. Is that putting America first? Never. To the politicians of today the welfare and security of America and her citizens are a distant second to their own political careers and to The Party. In today's political arena men like Zell Miller are an extreme rarity.
Out here on the Midway the buzzword is "Change." If you ask any Obama backer to explain why they support him they look at you like you're brain dead and with a blank stare reverently utter, "Change" as if that word is now some holy gospel. It is like Obama has not only just invented this new word but that he is now preaching it as the new 'Messiah.' Why? Clinton, Edwards, Huckabee, etc, they all promised 'Change' yet the mainstream media paid them no mind. In many instances, even as a fellow Republican, if elected McCain would even be a change from the man now in office.
Because younger Obama supporters have not been around as long as some of us, and because our schools do not place any importance on knowing our own history, I can understand why some of these younger supporters do not see the absurdity of this hype over this false promise of change. But for anyone who has lived through a number of these elections they should remember that in all prior elections the non-incumbent party has always promised 'Change.' Shoot, Democratic Vice President Gore even promised change from his then out-going Democratic President Clinton! Obama's 'Change' is nothing new, certainly not magical and just like all those who had promised the same during their past campaigns most of his 'Change' will too turn out to be nothing more than false promises.
Anyone who thinks that Obama is going to be able to, or really wants to, provide medical care for each and every American is dreaming. It is only a carrot that the Democratic Party waves in front of our collective noses during their bids for President. Sixteen years ago Bill Clinton waved it when he promised 'Change' and he waved it again in his re-election campaign. Hillary, Obama, Edwards, they all were seen waving this carrot in the past few months of this campaign. But one must ask that since it is Congress who makes and passes the laws, not the President, and within the last sixteen years there have been times when the Democrats ruled Congress with a majority, like now, then why hasn't this national health plan that they swear they want not materialized? Make no mistake, a national health plan will not be part of this promised 'Change' during this next presidential go around either, and if elected Obama will again be waving this same old dried out carrot in his re-election campaign four years from now, just like Billy.
I don't want to play Nostradamus here, but I can tell you what change we can expect from an Obama administration just by looking at the recent Democratic Presidencies of Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton. Just like history repeats itself, birds of a feather flock together and a leopard can't change his spots, what is sited next is the strict Democratic Party line or was true in one or both of these past Democratic Presidential administrations and they will be again if Obama is elected.
First the working class' taxes are going to increase but their wages will not increase to keep pace with the rising cost of goods. That's because the Dems will also raise taxes on business and this extra cost will be passed on to the consumer, or the working class, which will also see a freeze of their wages. Gas prices will continue to increase along with our dependency on foreign oil even though Obama has now flipped-flopped on his position of homeland and offshore drilling. Once in office he will go along with the Democratic Party line and put environmental concerns before the welfare of the American family. By the end of his first term we will all be sitting in line to buy gas for at least six bucks a gallon and there will not have been even one new drilling rig even started off our shores or in Alaska, you can bet the bank on this one. One must remember that Obama is not the leader of the Democratic Party. He has no real power or as some has said of him, he is an empty suit. Once President he will simply be a pawn to those with the power in the Democratic Party and he will follow the Party line to a T.
Second, in one day over two million illegal immigrants already in this country will be granted amnesty and become US citizens eligible to vote and receive social security, unemployment and other benefits without ever paying anything into the coffers like the rest of us. At a time when most 'baby boomers' are coming into retirement age this will bankrupt our social security system. As this amnesty day approaches hundreds of thousands, perhaps even millions, of more illegal aliens will flood across our borders in an attempt to cash in on the upcoming amnesty lottery. They will all be given breaks on paying taxes for years and by the end of Obama's first term English will have become the second language of our country. This vast influx of low cost labor will drive down wages and increase unemployment to an all time high.
Third, if for no other reason than to remove her annoying presence from his re-election bid, Obama will nominate Hillary Clinton to the Supreme Court and a Democratic Congress will eagerly accept this nomination. If you think the Supreme Court is too liberal now, just you wait, with the advancing ages of these sitting judges; Clinton may not be his only appointee. Regardless, within the next eight years the Supreme Court will overturn its recent judgment and reinstate the DC gun law, which will then be spread across the country banning private citizens of the right to own firearms thus making the Second Amendment a void and obsolete document. Further Obama appointments of judges to various courts will have a lasting effect on our judicial system for decades to come. Crime will increase while the courts become more and more lenient towards repeat offenders. Capital punishment will be eliminated while restrictions on abortion will be removed.
Lastly, just as Carter and Clinton did before, our military and defense systems will be drastically downsized or dismantled altogether. Obama will withdraw our troops from Iraq as promised. When he does so he must not bring these troops home but rather send them to Afghanistan because we do not have enough boots on the ground in that conflict. Our people who are already there will find themselves vastly out numbered when the terrorists shift their attention to that arena. Unfortunately Obama will instead "bring the boys home" without increasing our strength in Afghanistan. He will also stop the much needed and long awaited raids into Pakistan, which have just been initiated to destroy the Taliban leaders and base camps. The consequences of these mistakes in what then happens to our troops in Afghanistan may end up making the Alamo look like a Texas victory and set our war against terrorism back for years, if not leading us to defeat entirely.
There have been many comparisons of Iraq to Vietnam, which I will not argue here. But of three things I am certain. Over two million people were exterminated in Southeast Asia when America abandoned South Vietnam. Millions of others were imprisoned, forced to leave or interned in communist indoctrination camps. Even today minorities such as the montagnards are still being systematically exterminated. When Obama pulls out of Iraq those who had supported us, along with any unwanted minorities will meet much the same fate. Millions of Iraqis will be murdered, imprisoned or forced to flee. Islamic extremists will certainly continue their terrorism in Iraq only now unmolested by American troops their murderous ways will increase tenfold. Iran, who has had a long history of conflict with Iraq, may even invade once we leave. Just as we once stood by and watched North Vietnam invade South Vietnam, America will again do nothing to stop this unlawful invasion once our troops are back home. If Iraq falls to the Iranians, Iran will become The Power in the Mid-East, they will then dictate to everyone else in that region including our 'friends' Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. If that happens we may well end up buying gas by the ounce and still not be able to afford it, but the Dems will still refuse to drill in our own back yard.
Just as our military was winning the war in Vietnam, our military is now winning the war against the insurgents in Iraq. But once Obama pulls the rug out from under our troops and brings them home no nation will ever again trust the United States to help them. Likewise all of our contemporary enemies, or those in the future, will understand that even if they cannot defeat the courageous American military in battle, ultimately they will be victorious because the American people at home lack the courage and fortitude of our warriors and we will eventually surrender. Before a total victory, with the withdrawal of our troops from Iraq, the American military will become inconsequential in the eyes of the world. Our power and influence over worldly affairs will be greatly diminished or perhaps even cease to exist. We may have gotten away with pulling out our troops and support once in Vietnam but we will not get away with it again.
When the anti-war crowd and the Democrats of the 60's and 70's were successful in forcing the politicians to withdraw our troops and support from Vietnam our enemies, the Viet Cong and NVA, stayed in Southeast Asia. But when the anti-war crowd and the Democrats of this new century are successful in getting the politicians to withdraw our troops and support from Iraq our enemies will not be so kind. These people we are fighting today have already attacked us here at home and they are more than anxious to do so again, and again. This time, unlike Vietnam our enemies will follow our troops home. This is the one thing that all Americans must come understand. Unlike Vietnam this war will not be over for America when our troops come home. Instead the battlefields will only shift to our own homeland. It will not be like Vietnam where only Southeast Asian families suffered the consequences of our defeat. With this surrender American families will now be brought to the front line. Within a year after Obama deserts Iraq we will have another day like 9-11. Then another. Stopping the war in Iraq will not appease our enemies today, or tomorrow. Only our total defeat and subjugation will quench their thirst for our blood.
As I exit this crowd to make my way down this Political Circus Midway all I hear is the crowd talking about Obama and 'Change.' Why should I be surprised that these people or their Democratic leaders do not care about the consequences of their actions when they did not care what happened to the people in Southeast Asia who we had once promised to help? So why should I think now that they would care what happens to the people of the Mid-East when we once again cut and run from our promises? Why should they even care about another 9-11? They are like children. Nothing terrible could ever happen to them, it always happens to the other guy. So they want change. Reminds me of that wise old saying: "Beware of what you wish for, you just may get it."
God Bless America
Mike
